Last day in Junior Infants!
Well done to all the children of the Ash Class for reaching the end of Junior Infants! You all worked so hard and learned so much and I'm sure your families are just as proud as I am of your achievements. I have really enjoyed teaching you all this year and know that you will continue to grow and learn with your new teachers in Senior Infants. Have a great summer!

Thinking Time: Photo investigation
We examined the photo below and thought about what might have happened before this photo took place. We came up with some wonderfully imaginative stories and learned to respect other peoples opinions as we listened to each other share our ideas.
Evelyn: I think an earthquake and a volcano happened
Rihanna: I think a witch came with a magic wand and broke her house
Yasmin: I think a big dinosaur came along and said 'boo!' and broke the whole country and everything was not normal and the lady fell down
Hanan: I think her house has some food
Andy: I think someone knocked her house down
Sergey: I think a dragon defeated the house
Daniel: I think she fell with the rubbish and her house
Alicia: I think someone with a sword knocked the house down
Joseph: I think someone kicked the lady's house down and kicked her to the rubbish bin
Sumaya: I think a dinosaur knocked the house and she fell into the rubbish
Riannette: I think the three little pigs said 'Let me in'
Perela: I think the dinosaur knocked the house with his tail
Israel: I think the pig knocked the house down and the girl went to the rubbish and the dirt fell
Jordan: I think the dinosaur knocked the lady's house down and she fell into the rubbish
Jack: I think there was a tsunami and the lady jumped into the rubbish and the bin broke after the tsunami and everything exploded
Ilyas: I think the dinosaur ate her house and the lady said 'Stop!'
Cristian: I think the dinosaur broke the house and the lady had to go to the rubbish
Mateusz: I think the lady is sitting on the rubbish
Ksawery: I think the dinosaur came and stepped on her house and the lady went to the rubbish
Absent: Anvi, Nifemi, Amelka, Reyne & Denisa
Great work everyone!

On Monday the whole school took part in the National Spring Clean - while some of the senior classes cleaned up parks in the local area the Ash, Chestnut and Oak Classes cleaned up the areas around the school. We donned gloves and bibs and gathered up all the rubbish into bags. The wind made our work really tricky but we were glad the rain stayed away. Well done to everyone - the school looks great!!
‘Thinking Time’
Today we started ‘Thinking Time’ circles, where we think about a question, share our thoughts about the question and listen to each other’s answers. We are learning to respect other peoples ideas and opinions and having lots of fun!

Meet 'Ash' the travelling ted!
Hi my name is Ash, the Ash Class travelling teddy!
I love travelling and visiting people. I will be visiting everyone in the Ash
Class for one night and want you to write about all the fun we have together.
Everyone will have one page in my
travel diary to draw a picture and write about our adventures. If you take any
photos of my visit please email them to [email protected] and we
will stick them into my photo album. Don’t forget to bring me and this diary
back into school the next day so you can tell the rest of the Ash class all
about our time together!I can’t wait to have lots of fun with you Ash!
Today we had a surprise visitor at our door - Ash the travelling teddy! Ash came with a school bag, towel and toothbrush (we all know how important it is to brush our teeth). There was also a letter explaining that Ash would be visiting each of our homes for one night! We get to bring Ash home with us where we can have lots of fun and then we get to write about his visit and draw a picture! We can't wait to have lots of fun with Ash both at home and in our class!

End of term Disco!
To celebrate the end of our first term in Powerstown E.T.N.S. we had a disco with the Chestnut and Oak classes! We had so much fun as we danced to all the cool music - then we relaxed with some lovely calming music played by Shane. We hope everyone has a fun-filled and restful winter break!
Our Winter Poem
The Ash Class has written our first ever poem! Firstly we thought about things to do with winter and put them on a mind-map. Then we thought about our senses and used our ideas from the mind map to finish the sentences on the board. Aoife then read the poem to us. We worked together on this poem and are really proud of it. The next day we read our poem again for Helena - who was so impressed she asked Joseph to go to the office with her to read the poem out over the intercom to the WHOLE school. We were delighted that everyone got to hear our lovely poem. Then we decorated the poem to bring home for our families to see. We hope you like it!
Winter Performance
Well done to both Ash and Chestnut Classes today for a wonderful winter performance! Thanks to all the parents and friends who made it along. Watch this space as we are hoping to upload a video of the show for everyone to see!

History Timelines
This week we learned lots about the differences between babies and children - we bought in our baby photos and thought about how we have changed and all the things we can do now that we couldn't do as babies. We classified lots of artefacts into those used by children and those used by babies. We looked at pictures of different people and sorted and ordered the pictures into baby, child, teenager, adult, older person. We then used our baby photos and class photos to make our very own timeline and added in a drawing of what we think we might look like when we are all grown up.
Green Schools
We held our Green Schools Committee election this week. To prepare we had a visit from last years Green Schools Committee where we learned all about what they do and the aim for the year ahead - to achieve a flag in energy conservation. To get ready for this aim we watched a video on 'Saving Energy' and discussed ways we can save energy in the classroom. On Friday we answered questions about Green Schools and discussed ways to save energy at Assembly. Then each candidate introduced themselves and we voted for our representatives on the committee. Congratulations to Andy and Daniel who we elected as the Ash Class representatives, and will join all the other representatives from each class in the school to make up the Green Schools Committee. We can't wait to help them make the school green!

Election Time!
We held our first class election in the Ash Class on Friday. We learned all about the democratic process and how to vote. We listened to introductory speeches from all our candidates and then decided who we would like to represent us on the Student Council. In the Ash Class we cast our vote by placing a cube on the photo of the candidate we wanted to represent us. The votes from each class were tallied and the results announced by Helena.
Congratulations to Joseph and Rihanna who we elected as the Ash Class representatives, and will join all the other representatives from each class in the school to make up the Student Council. We wish them lots of luck!
We will be voting next Friday for our Green Schools Committee class reps - so watch this space!
